How to Set Up TaxJar in Funnelish for Automated Sales Tax

Why Sales Tax Compliance Matters for Funnelish Sellers

If you're selling physical products to US customers through your Funnelish funnel, sales tax compliance is a legal requirement in most states. Since the Supreme Court's 2018 South Dakota v. Wayfair decision, online sellers are required to collect and remit sales tax in states where they have economic nexus — even without a physical presence.

Manually calculating and tracking sales tax across multiple states is complex and time-consuming. TaxJar automates this entire process, integrating directly with Funnelish to calculate the correct tax rate for every order in real time.

What TaxJar Does for Funnelish Users

  • Automatically calculates the correct sales tax rate for every order based on the customer's location
  • Applies tax to orders at checkout in real time
  • Tracks your sales tax liability across all states
  • Generates sales tax reports for easy filing
  • Can auto-file sales tax returns in supported states (with TaxJar AutoFile)

Step 1 — Create a TaxJar Account

Sign up at taxjar.com. Choose a plan that fits your order volume. TaxJar offers a free trial so you can test the integration before committing.

Step 2 — Get Your TaxJar API Key

Log into TaxJar and go to Account → TaxJar API. Copy your API Token — you'll need this to connect TaxJar to Funnelish.

Step 3 — Enable TaxJar Globally in Funnelish

In Funnelish, click the Apps icon in the top header. Find TaxJar in the apps list and toggle it on. Enter your TaxJar API Token and your business's nexus state(s) — the states where you're required to collect sales tax. Save the settings.

Step 4 — Enable TaxJar Inside Your Funnel

Open the specific funnel where you want tax calculation. Go to the Apps tab inside the funnel. Enable TaxJar and save. Once active, TaxJar will automatically calculate and add the correct sales tax to every checkout in real time.

Step 5 — Add Your Nexus States

A nexus state is a state where you're legally required to collect sales tax. Common nexus triggers include having a warehouse, employees, or exceeding economic thresholds (typically $100,000 in sales or 200 transactions in a state). Add all your nexus states in the TaxJar settings to ensure tax is collected correctly.

Step 6 — Monitor and File Your Returns

TaxJar generates detailed reports showing how much sales tax you've collected in each state. Use these reports to file your quarterly or monthly sales tax returns, or use TaxJar's AutoFile feature to have returns filed automatically.

Important: Consult a Tax Professional

While TaxJar automates the calculation process, sales tax compliance has legal implications. We recommend consulting a qualified accountant or tax professional to determine your nexus obligations and ensure you're fully compliant in your state.
